South Korea invites PM Modi

Modi_South KoreaSouth Korea’s President Park Geun-Hye has invited India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit her country soon and spoke about new initiatives to boost economic engagement between the two countries.

“Park congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his victory in the general elections,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement. “She recalled with appreciation Prime Minister’s association with Korea as chief minister of Gujarat and expressed confidence that the Strategic Partnership between our two countries will expand in all areas under his leadership.”

Park, elected president of South Korea last year, visited India on her maiden foreign trip in January this year. India and South Korea enjoy multi-faceted relations based on strong economic ties. Bilateral trade was estimated to be $17-19 billion in 2012.

Park_koreaSouth Korean companies are enthusiastic about investing in India in the coming years, as Asia’s third largest economy looks for investment worth 1 trillion USD to improve infrastructures, build smart cities and boost employment.

India views South Korea as an important partner for its “Look East” policy. South Korea has also been an important partner for India in areas like defence and civil nuclear cooperation.
