The time has come to throw away your ancient rolling pins and those heavy tawa pans, and welcome Rotimatic –- the genius roti-making robot –- into your kitchen.
A first-of-its-kind invention that promises to change our interface with Indian food, Rotimatic was developed by a start-up called Zimlistic founded by an Indian couple in Singapore.
Pranoti Nagarkar and her husband Rishi Israni say it took them six years to develop the machine.
The invention has already caught the fancy of customers worldwide and has raked in about $5 million Singapore in pre-sales orders from the US. The product has also caused quite a stir on social media platforms.
Rotimatic is the first kitchen device to use robotic technology to make roti. The machine bakes a chapatti every minute, which can be customised in accordance to softness, thickness, amount of oil and type of flour.
Shipment to the American market would commence next year. The invention, however, awaits the US certifications required for such products for the American market.
Currently, priced at $599 each for the US market, Rotimatic is expected to cost less in India. The gadget weighs 39 pounds, and uses 10 engines, 15 sensors and 300 parts to produce piping hot rotis. It is also being hailed for its user-friendly design, including the detachable dishwasher-safe components.
